Online vs Campus - which is better?
|
|
There has been some controversy as to whether an online degree is acquired easier than a conventional campus degree. Furthermore, there has been controversy as well with regards to whether an online degree is as credible as a campus degree
Many highly respected studies have been completed and all conclude that there is little difference in the quality of the
education received from and online program vs a traditional campus based program. There are many benefits to to each that should not be ignored.
Online Programs offer unparalleled flexibility. This flexibility can be the difference between achieving a college degree or
not for many groups including adult learners and individuals in remote areas. With internet access everything needed to pursue
your degree is available on your schedule including homework assignments, class makeups, exam schedules, etc. Online programs
also offer scheduling flexibility that is hard for traditional universities to match. For the aggressive online student many
programs are offered in an accelerated format allowing a bachelor degree to be earned in as little as 2 years. When busy
schedules interfere it is easy to slow the program down without walking away from your continuing education completely.
The main benefit of a traditional university program is the campus experience. While much is done at online universities to allow
students to interact the way they would on campus, nothing can match being on campus. The ability to network with faculty and students
is unparalelled. There is also the many extra curricula activities (academic or not) that many feel are an important part of the
college experience.
What will it cost? A 4 year degree from a traditional university can cost tens of thousands of dollars. Online degrees can
generally be earned for a lot less. Both traditional and online universities offer the same loan and grant benefits and
will work to put together a customized financial aid package.
